Last week, our colleague, Theano Mamouka had the opportunity to present our work on EO-informed agent-based modeling at the ESA Digital Twin Earth Components: Open Science Meeting in Frascati, Italy.
As part of the ESA-funded TRANSITION project, we are exploring how Earth Observation (EO) data and Multi-Level Agent-Based Modeling (ML-ABM) can support more data-driven decision-making in land-use planning, climate resilience, and renewable energy deployment.
Some key aspects of our approach include:
-Land suitability analysis using EO data
-Agent-based simulations to model socio-environmental dynamics
-Reinforcement Learning for adaptive decision-making
-GIS-integrated land allocation techniques
-SHAP-based methods to improve AI interpretability
The event was a great opportunity to exchange ideas with experts working at the intersection of Earth Observation, AI and geospatial analytics. We gained valuable insights from discussions on how digital twin technologies can contribute to sustainability and climate adaptation.
We appreciate the opportunity to share our work and learn from others and we look forward to further collaboration in this field.
A sincere thank you to European Space Agency - ESA and the broader EO and AI community for the thoughtful discussions and feedback!
